The Cleanest Fleet in the World: First Annual Review

As Atlantis is being masted today, following a first full year of operations with its sailing cargo vessels Anemos and Artemis, TransOceanic Wind Transport (TOWT) publishes its first annual performance review, in full transparency. This review highlights outstanding environmental performance, as well as strong operational and human results.

In 2025, TOWT’s fleet completed 21 transatlantic round trips, representing 42 crossings, covering a total of 68,295 nautical miles.

The sailing cargo vessels Anemos and Artemis called at 11 ports across 8 countries:

France (Fécamp, Brest, Le Havre, Pointe-à-Pitre), Canada (Quebec, Matane), United States (New York), Portugal (Porto), Brazil (São Sebastião), Colombia (Santa Marta), Guatemala (Santo Tomás de Castilla), and Cuba (Havana).

The average transatlantic crossing time was 18 days per voyage, confirming the reliability of wind-powered shipping on regular commercial routes.

Outstanding Environmental Performance

Thanks to the combined performance of its two vessels, TOWT avoided 316.17 tonnes of CO₂ emissions compared with conventional maritime transport—equivalent to approximately 200 Paris–New York round trips by plane.

Two voyages still in progress at the reporting date will further improve these results. On a comparable scope, the average emissions factor for 2025 stands at 1.5 gCO₂ per tonne-kilometre, compared with 4.24 gCO₂/t-km in 2024, illustrating a significant improvement in the fleet’s carbon performance.

A Balanced and Robust Operating Model

In 2025, the fleet demonstrated well-controlled operations, combining energy performance with operational reliability.

The breakdown of propulsion modes was as follows:

  • Sail only: 53%

  • Engine only: 15%

  • Hybrid configurations: 32%

This combination ensured regular operations while maximizing the use of wind propulsion, at expected speeds and reliability levels.

Premium and Diversified Cargo Flows

Green coffee represented the main cargo transported. Other major product categories included spirits, clothing and accessories, and components for the aerospace industry. Key customers included Belco, Mumm, Martell, Havana Club, Café William, and Chartreuse.

In addition, 32 passengers sailed aboard the vessels during the year, enjoying a unique transatlantic sailing experience.

Committed Teams at the Heart of Performance

To ensure that goods are transported exclusively by wind power and maritime expertise, 51 employees ashore and at sea make up TOWT’s teams.

Every operational decision and each onboard learning experience contributes to a collective approach to “smart sailing”, developed since the start of commercial operations in August 2024. Teams were strengthened throughout 2025 and continue to grow to support the company’s expansion.

Setting Course for 2026

The year 2026 is already shaping up to be a major milestone, with the arrival of two of the six vessels currently under construction in Vietnam: Atlantis and Atlas.

Despite the challenges inherent to a launch phase, TOWT has demonstrated resilience and adaptability in pursuing its mission: to contribute to climate-positive and human-centered maritime transport, creating new value around exceptional products carried by sail.

Highlights of 2025

Havana Club joined the brands sailing under the TOWT flag for its first transatlantic voyage between Europe and Havana, operated by Artemis in July 2025.

The June 2025 call of Anemos in Guatemala enabled the creation of a green hub for specialty coffees originating from Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.

Record port call in Brest with Artemis in April 2024: 440 pallets loaded in 22 hours, or approximately 3 minutes per pallet.
