With a funding completed over the summer, TOWT has ordered not only one, but two sailing cargo ships. 

These unique innovative ships foreshadow a fleet for the decarbonization of an industry which seeks credible and realistic ways to cope with the climate crisis from a maritime perspective.
By doing so, TOWT is responding to the demand for decarbonisation, transparency, reliability and operational flexibility from its multiple clients, on the four continents.

The first vessel is scheduled for delivery in late 2023, in Concarneau (France), while the second will be delivered in spring 2024.
 
Sailing cargo ships for the future
These ships of 80 metres long will carry more than 1,100 tonnes of cargo (i.e. nearly 50 semi-trailers or over 100 containers), with 12 passengers on board, two masts (schooners), and nearly 3,000 m² of sails.
The two vessels will ship cargo on behalf of over 50 committed clients at speed about 10 knots reducing by more than 90% the carbon footprint, to and from the four continents, forming the first principally wind-moved fleet of this kind.

A trans-oceanic fleet under prevailing winds: a natural choice
Offshore winds are abundant, reliable, and predictable. By operating vessels which can sail predominantly without engine (outside maneuvers), and by raising consumers’ awareness about its capacity to decarbonize, TOWT delivers an effective answer to maritime shipping’s climate, commercial and systemic challenges.
 
A unique financial structure
The launch of these new constructions was made possible by a fundraising which brought together 20 equity investors – including Après-demain S.A., GROUPE IDEC INVEST INNOVATION, and Crédit Agricole Normandie Seine.
 
It was also funded by more than 2,100 citizens on the investment platform LITA, setting record-breaking EUR 4.5m raised in just over a month.
 
It proves that a historic crowd of investors supports TOWT’s plan to make maritime transport steer into a truly impactful and transparent course, forming a powerful and original leverage to finance a fleet with strong climate ambitions.
 
The ships, real ambassadors of the ANEMOS label, will provide state-of-the-art reliable, transparent, marketable and drastically decarbonized service.
